Overview: The lavishly appointed Lexus LX 570 boasts all the characteristics of a traditional SUV. Built on the rugged body-on-frame Toyota Land Cruiser platform, Lexus added leather upholstery, wood trim and serious technology, resulting in a luxury truck that’s every bit as spacious, powerful and off-road capable as its sibling Land Cruiser.

Walkaround: Lexus clearly intended to differentiate the LX from the Land Cruiser, lengthening its nose by 5 inches. Lexus’ tall, hourglass signature grille dominates the front end, establishing the overall styling language. Love it or hate it, it undeniably defines the LX’s distinctive character. The LX has an imposing presence, with squared-off corners and large, integrated taillights. The split tailgate has an upper hatch above a fold-down platform that can double as a bench seat at events like tailgate parties.

2018 Lexus LX 570Interior: The luxuriously appointed cabin is laden with plush leather, massive quantities of wood and prefect fit-and-finish, creating an elegant ambiance. The dashboard features lots of buttons and knobs — many of which control the off-road and other technology. However, the layout is seemingly somewhat arbitrary. Lexus’ Enform system with Bluetooth connectivity is standard. There’s ample room for five adults, with high-sitting front-row seats that are generously proportioned, comfortable and supportive. Second-row seats are fitted with 40/20/40-split seatbacks. While the front two rows offer great comfort, the third row is short on space, suitable mainly for small kids. Cargo room totals 9.1 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 24.8 cubic feet with the seatbacks folded down.

Under the Hood: Toyota’s 5.7-liter V8 delivers 383 horses and 403 pound-feet of torque, powering an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive.

Behind the Wheel: Like its sibling Land Cruiser, the luxurious LX excels off-road with substantial ground clearance and wheel travel, boasting impressive capabilities — and exceptional ride comfort — on roads of all kinds. The big V8 provides admirable passing acceleration on the highway without using all the available power.

Bottom Line: Lexus LX 570 is terrific for traveling and towing, and capable of serious off-roading. The quiet cabin is pleasantly plush and amply equipped, and offers all the modern technology and comfort you expect from Lexus.
